A List of the Best Central America Travel Blogs

As you will certainly know unless this is your first time here at Food, Travel Explore (in which case, welcome!) I went travelling in Central America and South America this year. I’ve spent the whole year writing content about the time I spent in Central America, most notably in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama (including the San Blas Islands).

Well, I’ve officially finished! Kind of. What I mean by that is, whilst I feel like I’ve covered a big portion of my trip and I’ve decided it’s time to start writing about South America before I start forgetting everything, I’m absolutely certain that I will keep popping back to write more about Central America, and I’ll visit Central America again over the next couple of years to cover some of the amazing places I had to miss due to time constraints.

So, whilst it’s not over for my Central America travel blog, I’m marking that section of the website as “done for now”. I’d also love to get some guest travel writers and bloggers in to help cover the sections of Central America that I missed (so if that’s you, get in touch).

I thought I’d celebrate by pulling together a list of amazing Central America travel blogs out there. Whilst I was travelling my friends and I read countless blog posts to help us navigate our journey, choose the best spots to go, and generally get a handle on things. So, without further ado, here’s your ultimate guide to Central America travel blogs.

P.S. If you have a Central America travel blog and you want to be featured on this list, just drop me a message 🙂

Food, Travel Explore

Well, obviously, this is me. Duh! This is just here for the people that skipped my rambling introduction and came straight to read the list (I don’t blame you!). I went to Central America this year, in 2024, visiting:

Claire’s Itchy Feet

Claire’s Itchy Feet has to come next on this list because her blog (along with Along Dusty Roads below) was a lifesaver for Ellie and I when we were in Guatemala. She has some really in depth information there on Guatemala, alongside a few pieces of other content on Belize, El Salvador and Costa Rica.

Along Dusty Roads

As I mentioned above, Along Dusty Roads was another blog that came up time and time again to help Ellie and I when we were travelling in Guatemala. They have really in depth content on every country in Central America and Mexico, too!

The Wandering Blonde

The Wandering Blonde is about one of the most famous travel bloggers out there, and luckily for us she has a section on Central America. She has a few blog posts on general Central American travel, as well as destination-specific posts on Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras.

The Broke Backpacker

The Broke Backpacker is another incredibly famous travel blog, and one of those names that always crops up, even amongst my non-blogging friends. Their full guide includes interactive maps and suggested itineraries based on how much time you have and where you want to go, and they have destination content on Belize, Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala.

The Blonde Abroad

The Blonde Abroad has one of the most beautifully aesthetic guides to Central America that I have ever seen, that gives you a quick overview of the weather and what each country is best known for. She also has destination content on Belize, Costa Rica and Panama.

Nomadic Matt

Nomadic Matt has a dedicated guide to each country in Central America and many cities within each country, too!

Anna Sherchand

Anna Sherchand shows you how to get the most out of your Central American journey with her one-month itinerary, which is really detailed and full of useful information about how to get from one destination to another, where to stay, and what the best things are to do there.

Bring Us That Horizon

Bring Us That Horizon have an impressive range of blog posts on Central America and Mexico, covering every country except for Belize.

Salt in Our Hair

Salt in Our Hair have a truly impressive range of articles on Costa Rica, with some really in depth advice and itineraries for just about anyone! They also have sections on Mexico, Colombia and Peru.

Wanderlust Chloe

Wanderlust Chloe has a smaller selection of articles, but each one really tells a story and you really get a feel for what life was like for Chloe as she was travelling.

Travelstartsnow

Andrew at Travelstartsnow writes about his adventures in the Caribbean, Central America and South America. The countries he’s written about so far are: Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Peru.

Like I mentioned above, if you’d like you have your Central America blog featured on this list just drop me a message or comment on this post!

For the past five years, I’ve been living abroad, moving between four different countries and making the world my home. When I’m not settling into a new place, I’m off on the road again, solo backpacking through new regions and figuring things out as I go. So far, that’s taken me across Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with nothing but a backpack and a curiosity for what’s around the corner.

I’ve been a travel writer for six years, sharing my experiences, advice, and mishaps along the way. My work has been published in Dave’s Travel Corner, Amateur Traveler, and The Traveler, where I write about everything from the best budget stays to off-the-beaten-track destinations. Over the years, I’ve tested more backpacks than I can count, learned the hard way what to pack (and what not to), and picked up plenty of tips that make long-term travel easier.

Next up, I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet: walking Spain’s Via de la Plata, the longest Camino de Santiago route, over 36 days. With over 1,000 kilometres ahead of me, it’s set to be an adventure of its own.

Through my writing, I aim to help fellow travellers (especially those heading out solo) navigate the highs and lows of travel with honest advice, useful insights, and real stories from the road. If you’re looking for practical tips, inspiration, or just a reminder that you don’t need all the answers before setting off, you’re in the right place.

  1. Hi Isabella,

I’m Andrew from Travelstartsnow.com which was previously travellingsole.com. Can you replace the travellingsole.com link on this page with travelstartsnow.com. I’ll really appreciate it and it’ll help me a lot. Have a great day.

    Thanks
    Andrew
